The big switcheroo!

Just wanted to quickly share with you some changes we've had to the second and third floors of the shop this week.

Lots of projects and change this week ---- painting, rearranging, and welcoming new - and not so new, vendors.

We started the big switcheroo on the second and third floors.  Next week, there will be other changes to the first floor and lobby area...so stay tuned!
First up was Robert.  He had a space on the third floor {he also has the second floor hallway and a pavilion outside} and moved to the second floor.  I absolutely love this room on the second floor.  Lots of light and room to display all of Robert's stained glass windows and architectural finds.

Robert's old space was divided in two, and we are welcoming Hunt & Gather to the third floor.  The pieces they have loaded in so far have great pops of color and include lots of great art.

The other half of Robert's space will be used by Lynn, who previously had pieces on the first floor and out in a pavilion.  Lynn refinishes a lot of furniture and currently has some great painted pieces and pieces with natural textures, like this mini topiary with woven drink set, and an awesome burlap ottoman.

We encourage you to take a peek at these new spaces on the second and third floors.  We are excited about these changes and new looks and new life in these spaces.  More changes to come in June, so we'll be sure to give you a sneak peek of those changes too when it all goes down!

What the What? #10 - revealed!

This week, we posted a picture of an odd item Lisa had in her space.

We had some interesting guesses and a few were kinda close.

One of our readers was close...it is actually an industrial piece.

What you're looking at came off of an old street light.  This heavy piece (and it's twin around the other side) would be bolted around a street light post - likely where two large vertical pieces of metal came together.

A peephole in to a radiation room was my favorite guess....we wouldn't want to have that kind of risky item in the store for fear of something like this happening again!

Here is another peek at the item.

From the Archives...Brookgreen Gardens

Dionysus, by Edward Francis McCartans, 1936

Anna Hyatt Huntington was a largely self taught sculpter who grew up in a family of scientists who studied animals. From a young age she was fascinated by and loved to study animals too. She did study sculpture later under Herman MacNeil and Guzton Borglum at the Art Students League of New York.

Anna and Archer Huntington built these gardens around the idea of having a large American figurative sculpture collection at Brookgreen Gardens, especially those pieces that could be situated in an outdoor setting. And of course the collection was built around Anna's own sculpture. Today at Brookgreen there are over 1200 sculptures by 350 artists - from the 19th century to the 21st century. Here are a few photos of some of my favorites.

Alligator Bender, Nathaniel Choate

Christ Child, Adam Belskie

Riders of the Dawn, Adolph Alexander Weinman

Pin it Wednesdays #12-Shabby Chic

When walking around at our Spring Market we noticed that the Shabby Chic decor is still going strong.  We saw several items that would make anyone smile when they walked into a home or space.  This week, a few images that make us want to relax and smell the flowers:

{1} The mix between the brick and soft whites is to die for:

{2} A pop of color makes this room stand out!

{3} Doesn't this image make you want to take a nap, buy an vintage truck and have a party at the same time?

{4} How pretty is this image?  Also save money by using smaller votives and flea market containers as opposed to large arrangements!

{5} This table, chandelier, bench, pillow, dishes, too many to list!

Head over to our Pinterest page to see more sources for your future shabby chic decor.

What the What? #10

We have a special phrase around the store when we find things on our travels that are particularly unusual, odd, confusing, or sometimes hideous.

When we come across one of these items, we like to use one of our favorite Lucketts-isms, "What the... What?"

Here is one of those items from the store.

See if you can guess what this is and leave us a comment if you think you know!

We'll reveal the item's true identity and purpose later this week.

Can you identify this item from The Old Lucketts Store and tell us what it was once used for?  I'll only tell you that it's very heavy and about a foot wide.

Home Libraries, Nooks, and Reading Corners....

Are you ready for this?

Over on Houzz (one of my favourite sites ever), I've compiled an idea-book of photos showcasing libraries, books, shelving, and nooks great for curling up and reading a good book in.

You all know how important having books around my home is for me, and how much importance I place on their presence, so this idea-book was an absolute pleasure to collate.

There's over 70 photos in the complete idea book, but the slide show below lets you see a mere 20 of them, so click through here to see the rest!

A feast of bookish joy awaits!

You can find lots of interesting interior pics and ideas over at Houzz.

Between that site and Pinterest, I can disappear for a whole afternoon before I know what's happened.
