Interior Decoration Remodeling Judge A Book By Its Cover

Interior Decoration Remodeling I love receiving my weekly Houzz updates, because they are a little treat waiting for me in my email. This weekend I especially loved the photos of a little house with a modern soul. If I were walking down the street and came across this place, I would wish that I could run inside. Funny enough, I have seen the inside because it is the home of Morgan of The Brick

Fearless Fantasy Friday ~ Wallpaper, Painted Chairs, and Colour!

I see things like the images below....

... and I'm reminded of how I've been hankering to get some wallpaper somewhere in my house, even if it's just on a ceiling (oh yes, I WILL do that one day), and to paint some furniture in a bold colour. I've been eyeing off my dining chairs and a couple of bookcases for that adventure.

That last image, with its bold chairs and eye catching light fitting is pretty fearless too!

I found the pictures above over on House Of Turquoise. A feast for the eyes on this Fearless Fantasy Friday.

There's more too....

Have a great weekend everyone!

Design House Sale - June 30th

I went through the Design House today to get a sneak peek of what has been marked down for the sale on Saturday.

There were some killer oversize furniture pieces and mirrors, a great mix of old and new accents, and great art.  Most items are on sale, and Kim was still making additional mark downs today.

The Design House sale is June 30th, 10am to 5pm.  The Design House is on the same property as The Old Lucketts Store ---- 42350 Lucketts Road in Leesburg, VA.

See you there...

Several pieces caught my eye and I made a mental guess on the price.  This large scale mirror was on sale for less than half of what I thought it should be.

Several painted pieces are on sale.  This piece has some really pretty carved details.

This huge television armoire caught my eye immediately. It's on sale, along with the cute black metal side table.

There are tons of mirrors to choose from.  And guess what?  I see a lot of sale tags in this picture!

The House is full of great deals and most of the larger items in the Design House are on sale.

Items that have been drastically reduced will have these sale tags on them {see below}.  Please bring both the original tag and the sale price tags to the counter.

See you Saturday!

A few more pictures are posted on our Facebook page {here}.

heat wave.

It is 107 degrees in the mid-west today.

To hot to go outside. To hot to take a newborn to the pool.

So I am always looking for ways to keep my sanity entertain Elisabeth and Jude when were are stuck inside for the day.

This is one of their favorite ways to read books...

Simply pair the book up with a character...it can be a stuffed animal, an action figure, a doll ... what ever goes with the book. Then they take turns "reading" the book with each character.

This should give you at least 20 mins of peace fun :)

Plus it makes reading fun!

Beware of Checks if you accept them.....

Beware of Checks if you accept them.....

A story to make all of you merchants aware of the danger in accepting checks...

I am sharing with all of you today a story that is incredible to believe even for someone who is going through it as we speak.. A couple of weeks ago I started to receive checks for work orders coming in to my online webstore, www.aghomegoods.com... I received a total of 7 work orders totaling 12,781.00 into the store..

I was happy as hell that many WO's and to a single customer it was going to be a good month after all.. Well that was then .. Fast forward two weeks later and the story changes.. All WO came in under PPN Holdings Limited, no problem there but under the scenes my assistant was talking to someone claiming to be Joelle Salgado, an old friend of mine using all his information and that he had started a new company by the name of PPN Holdings, Limited - Still no real red flag there but to me it would have been - You see Joelle Salgado was deported to Mexico back in March.. Yrea he could have come back but still a case worth a red flag.. Well to make a long story short about a week ago I received a call from someone claiming to be from PPN Holdings wanting to know what this was.. By this I mean AG Home Goods and that they had placed no orders through this store and that they were in no way responsible for the payments already made, cleared, and used to purchase furniture already delivered to someone or Joel Salgado himself.. Who this mystery person is I have no idea! Is it the real Joel Salgado? I have no idea? Does he have furniture that is worth over 7,000 that is now a loss to this company? Yes he does.. and who looses out in the end myself of course for trusting that checks received, cleared and deposited by bank were legal and legitimate..

As the bank of PPN Holdings, Limited reversed all charges going through their bank so I was left with a bank account that was negative 7,200, reversed checks for fraud, and the attention focusing on me and my store.. All because my assistant innocently took these WO's over the phone, received the funds, I deposited them,. they cleared the account, and we purchased and delivered the goods, most of which we had in stock.

Although today we filed a police report, got some relief from the people at the station, we are still out the 7,200 dollars in furniture we have already purchased and shipped to this person who we have no idea who it is... and thank GOD the last two checks did not go through the account and the orders cancelled because that would have made it over 12,000 in purchases... we would now be looking at losses.. Its amazing.. when you look at it a check can be duplicated by anyone..

They sell the check paper at office depot, office max, and just about anywhere stationary is sold.. All people really need is your check, routing number, account number and a simple check copy has all the information they need to do anything they wish with your account.. I mean print as many as you want and simply use them to buy things.. By the time the other party reacts, God only knows how many things you have purchased.. and all those stores simply loose that money as the originating bank always gets their money back, as they report the fraudulent activity.. I wonder what happens to thew people who do this on purpose..

Anyone can order checks online to any account and there is no verification... or print your own checks at home..

What is to stop a legitimate business from ordering a bunch of stuff using pay by check, having it delivered to a location other then their address, and then calling the bank and saying it was not them.. and to please reverse all charges.. HUH, one has to wonder..

I am writing about this to see if something similar has happened to anyone out there and if it has please send me the info as I would love to compare notes and maybe find who did this because now instead of having a good month I am having a horrible month.. I have losses totaling almost 8,000 and I don't even know how I am going to make that up.. Needless to say, Avant-Garde (AG Home Goods) is no longer accepting checks for orders unless you want us to hold the money for a period of three months and then send you your order. And actually we don't even want to do that,.. I do apologize for all of you who have paid by check and have sent in legitimate business checks to our checking account

How Fabulous Are These Shelves Made From Vintage Luggage?

These are SO me!

I would so love some of these in my home.

I think they're majorly awesome!

Of course, you mightn't want to dismantle your favourite luggage and use them this way, but I think it's a brilliant idea.

On 'The Block' (TV show over here for those not in Aus), I also loved it when Sophie used old suitcases like these as drawers in her storage unit. She took off the lids and had the bottom slide in and out of the shelf via the handles.

It looked fab and had a lot to do with them winning the room challenge that week I think.

Interior Decoration Remodeling A Year's Worth Of Time

bacon salad sandwich

My favorite summer meal ... BLT's.

Jude calls them bacon salad sandwiches...which is fitting since they don't have lettuce.

I use fresh homegrown arugula...which has an amazing taste.

Fresh spinach works too, when arugula isn't in season.

Add a homegrown tomato and homemade bread and you are set!!

When home grown tomatoes aren't available use canned stewed tomatoes

The canned tomatoes are a fraction of the cost and add the juices just like a homegrown one would

you can find bacon salad sandwich recipe HERE

Store to Abode Fridays #16 - Frenchy blue furniture

Today we're showcasing Frenchy blue furniture on Store to Abode Fridays.

These serene pieces are a great way to commit to a color, without going bright.

If you love to do-it-yourself, Marian has a few colors in her new milk paint line (available at the Lucketts Store in July) that lend themselves well to this look.

It's actually a picture of one of Marian's milk paint dressers that was my inspiration for this week.

How do I find something like this at Lucketts?    I snapped this photo back in March and this piece is gone.  But Jennifer, Amy, Suzanne, Marian, and Chad frequently hand paint pieces in similar finishes.  Look for dealer codes JDH, MOMO & MSI on the first floor, and CHD on the second floor to get your Frenchy blue furniture fix.

Here are a few other spaces that pay homage to the Frenchy blue/grey furniture pieces.

{1}  Mix and match in the same color family.  A beautiful rustic farmhouse table is perfectly paired with some darker blue chairs.

{2} This curvy settee with a pop of blue looks like such a nice place to curl up and read a book.

{3)   From the Pink Wallpaper blog ---- Check out the pairing of this antique chandelier with a striking blue armoire in the corner of this dining space - perfectly elegant and very French!

{4} Here's a closeup of some detail of a beautifully distressed French-style finish.  This look was achieved with blue and grey chalk paint on a gold mirror.  The Decorated House has the full tutorial for this project {here}.

{5}  This Frenchy blue dresser goes well with a palette of similar muted tones.  A calm and relaxing look for summer.

Shhhhh.....don't tell anyone but your favorite girlfriends...

On Saturday, June 30th, we are having a blowout sale at our Design House.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Thanks for joining us for Store to Abode Friday.  If you want to see other products we typically sell in the store and how you can decorate with them, click on the picture below.

pinned it and did it.

I am always looking for fun ways to entertain tweedle dum and tweedle dee.

I saw this idea on Pinterest a while back and tried it with Elisabeth & Jude.

The prep time was super easy!
Just  bowl of water with different weighted objects...so that not everything is sunk to the bottom.
freeze overnight and bam ... 35 mins of press bliss.

We used a bowl of warm water and spoons to pour over the ice in order to make it melt.

Elisabeth loved it...

Jude said it was hard to do and cold...but then asked to do it again.

Update on the "Whyte Estate"

The scorching weather has the boys (you know Henry, he is everywhere) and I over at the "Whyte Estate" in small doses this week.  We are going through the house and picking out the original items that we are going to keep and implement into different designs.  This is helping me narrow down the list that seems to be a zillion lines long of what I need to will to gather in the up coming months.

A few things that excite me the most:

As soon as I spotted this cast iron sink, I knew it was going to be used for a mud room.  It is  currently part of an existing out building that will eventually be fixed up and used as my husbands work space. The sink though, it will become the focal point of the mud room that I have dreamt of having for many years.  I want it to be a cottage type room that will be a place for the family to enter and throw their shoes, as well as double as a laundry room. My son Sam has been begging (and trust me he has taken it to a whole new level now that he knows we are moving) me for a dog for years.  When the "Whyte Estate" is finished, we can finally make that happen. Even though the dog is yet to be,  I can't help myself from envisioning giving the dog a bath in the sink.  Hang your coat, drop your boots, clean your clothes, wash the dog....this mud room will truly be a one stop shop!

I like this image of the sink and side by side laundry unit.  Something with less cabinets to make it more of a stopping place, I picture hooks and a bench.

I like this picture because it creates an image in my head of what the sink will look like when it is all cleaned up and in a finished space.

Next up.....this chimney stack that we found still has the original brick, you can see peeking out from under an inch of plaster.  I can't wait to get the rest of that plaster off:

This was a terrific and unexpected find and even better news, it is part of the kitchen!  This white washed loveliness is definitely staying.

I think this image really resembles what the brick will look like completely exposed and restored.  I hope to mix it in with a light, bright and open kitchen.

And lastly......the fireplace that you have seen once before:

I have a relationship with this fireplace.  It is pretty much the only thing in the home that looks like it is semi-finished.  I walked into the house, saw this fireplace and said we are going to do this. I want this fireplace to remain exactly how it is and will decorate around it.  I love the raw wood, black scarring and it's over all patina.   I see a star bust mirror of some sort above it.  Maybe a driftwood one like this:

Source: via Lucketts on Pinterest

Paired with a grey color similar to this:

But for now, I am overheated and need to go get a fountain soda!

-Amy
