Here's a lovely quote from Dorothy Draper about collections...
'If you are a collector, let other people share your pride and joy. Don't sprinkle your collection out of sight in a meaningless jumble. Notice how groups of small objects, when they are well arranged, become important and effective. Remember that repetition is a form of emphasis. Collect what you will, but see to it that you arrange your hobby to its best advantage'.And here are some lovely images to demonstrate the essence of her quote....
A word of caution however:
When displaying collections it's also vitally important to refrain from going overboard and keep the principles of good design in mind, lest we end up with something not so inspiring or attractive.
Ask yourself: 'Do I have a collection hidden away somewhere that I could display attractively?'
Which leads to: 'How can I display it in keeping with the essence of good design, and therefore to its best advantage?'
Because: Collections, by their very nature, exude the feeling of passion, as collectors are passionate about what they collect! A beautifully displayed collection can impart that passionate vibe to your surroundings, and create an inspirational atmosphere.
Cheers,
Linda.
