How To Decorate A Very Small Apartment - From The Domino Archives!

One of the lovely blogs I follow is Shoebox Decor, and Typhanie's post titled 'Domino Is Back' jumped out at me from my blog list when I saw it earlier today.

What?

Domino is back?

Where?

How?

Turns out, over at Brides.com, they've archived some of the now defunct Domino Mags most glorious articles and pics (more to come I think).

Yipee!!!!

Typhanie mentioned one of her fave Domino articles about how to decorate a small apartment was there, and after checking it out, I can see why she was impressed!

Here's a little teaser....

'Moving into a narrow shoebox apartment inspired Tori Mellott to attempt the impossible: create a calm, neutral haven without skimping on her over-the-top style. The resulting fusion of the beige and the bold proves there's no sense in fighting your own taste.'

LOVE the hanging collection in the living room featured above. Just because a room is smallish, doesn't mean you can't go to town with a big wall display!

Click here to see all 11 images and read the story of how Tori decorated her little yet magnificent apartment.

Welcome back Domino!

What If I Had 'This'....... And Then Saw 'That'.....?

What if I had a bedroom styled in a lovely French fashion like this...

..... and then when I got out of bed and wandered over to the window I looked out and saw that....

Now, wouldn't that start the day off pretty darn wonderfully!?

Spoonflower

So, we have been on the hunt for the perfect fabric for two club chairs for a client's living room. The chairs will be the first thing you see when you walk in - focal point. JD and I both know what we want, we can see the fabric in our heads, but we can't find it anywhere! That brings me to Spoonflower. Folks, you can design your own fabric: you pick the pattern (send them jpg file), color, fabric content, repeat etc. Prices are $18-32 a yard. Love this place! Check it out here.

Doodling...

Whilst sitting and watching T.V. last night I felt the urge to draw something... so I got out my ordinary old black pen, found some writing paper.... and had a good old 'doodle'!

I LOVE trees, as you know, and I've always found it relaxing to just see 'where a tree takes me' if I start to doodle. So tonight, I ended up with this tree and some patterns in its roots, and a sort of patterned border.

Fun!

I have quite a few tree items, objects, and books around my home because externalising my fascination with them connects me to my surroundings in a unique way. Maybe I can use this one as an oversized bookmark!

What do you have a fascination with?

What do you 'doodle' when your pen gets the chance to run free?

New Monday Feature! House of the Week

On Mondays we are going to feature a "house of the week." These will be houses that we like and admire in Atlanta and other places we travel.

We are getting started with a charming Atlanta cottage that was purchased to be renovated, but then had to be torn down to the foundation due to some damage that was unknown when the project first started. Norman Askins is the architect and Richard Anderson the landscape architect. Jackye Lanham reportedly did the interiors, but we don't have photos of the inside. Perhaps we will all see it in a shelter magazine in the near future. Enjoy!

I love these windows on the front screen porch. This house could be in the mountains...

Whoa!! Do You Like Colour? Take A Look At These Fabulous Photos...

Erin from the gorgeous blog House Of Turquoise just featured some pictures by a designer named Holly Dyment.

What a super discovery! Holly is one colourful lady, and puts rooms together in a way that makes me want to bounce around gleefully. This women uses colour and pattern with abandon and unabashed love.

Yeah!

Here's just 3 images to love. You can see more over on Erin's blog, and even more in Holly's portfolio.

First People's Market

So my first People's Market was a laid-back, easy-going, non-stressful time. I didn't sell nearly as much as Park City but the calm feeling that encompasses the area is worth it. I've met some great people, traded for cool stuff, and really enjoyed every second of it. I got henna tattoos, two beautiful handcrafted necklaces, Chris got a custom print shirt, and I'm so excited to be back in two weeks. Park City.. here I come!!!

Monday Music - One Of My Most Favourite Songs...Ever!

This is where it all began (personally one of my fave articles ever!!).

Music is SO important to the happiness of my home. :)

Now most Monday mornings when the working week looms I'll try to post a fave song or some music I'm listening to at the moment to provide some musical motivation.

So my little groovers......... here's today's installment!

*****************************

This song is by one of my fave bands from the 80's (gawd I love 80's music) Tears For Fears. I could sing along with this song all day. And, I LOVE the two guys in their tuxedos and bow ties dancing in front of the petrol bowsers. So cool!

And, as always when thinking of our 'Music Must Haves' section...

Ask yourself: 'Do I L.O.V.E music?'

Which leads to: 'Have I got enough of it in my home and in my life?'

Because: Good interior design caters to ALL our senses, not just our eyes.... that's why I call it 'Atmospheric Design' instead!

So go get your groove on!!!!

Cheers,

Linda.

Oakland Cemetery

My children tell me I'm weird. There are a million reasons they like to tell me that, but one of the main ones is that I like to walk through old, beautiful cemeteries. The restful solitude speaks to me (maybe to all busy people), and I love the architectural elements in a cemetery. Also, I feel connected to the past in a real and earthy way (no pun intended) when strolling through these park like settings. In the late 19th century it became fashionable to plan cemeteries that resemble parks, and the living families would frequently visit these beautiful resting places for the dead.

The land for Oakland Cemetery was purchased by Atlanta city fathers in 1850 - it started with six acres. By 1872 it had expanded to 48 acres, its present size. My mother brought us here when we were children and she was working on a project with the Georgia State Archaeology department. Ever since then I have loved coming here.

On Memorial Day this year I had the idea to take my children to visit Oakland Cemetery to see the markers of the Confederate dead. So we lathered on sunblock and headed downtown. Stroll with us through Oakland....
