Marian's sheet music wreath and great ice skates.

Marian's beautiful grey and white color palette.

Marian's stocked full of goodies!

Don't Jennifer's ornaments look almost like beautiful jewelry?

A light dusting of snow on Jennifer's winter wonderland.

Week long round up

A lot has been going on this week, here are a few of the highlights in cased you missed anything...

Lots of new items rolled Fresh Off the Wagon this week, including this very unique and ornate chair.

Marian (aka Miss Mustard Seed) received a ten pound box of glitter last week and has been glittering like mad, getting ready for our Holiday Open House next Friday, Saturday & Sunday (Nov. 4-6).

Jenny V. on the second floor is also in the holiday spirit and ready for the Holiday Open House.  Her Santa collection was in full force this week and she had a tree decorated with mini license plates, how imaginative!

If you're visiting our Holiday Open House (Nov. 4-6) please remember to bring a canned food donation to benefit our local food pantry, Loudoun Interfaith Relief.  We'll also accept checks made out to Loudoun Interfaith.  Any cash donations we receive will be converted to grocery store gift cards so those in need can purchase a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner.  Each donation will be rewarded with a chance to win a gift card to The Old Lucketts Store.  This is an important cause (a large number of their clients are children) and I want Heather's van so full of canned food that the bumpers hit the ground :)

Our gift card give away ends tonight at midnight.  So get your entries in. If you haven't left a comment on this post { click here }, please do, so you can enter our $25 gift card giveaway to the shop.  If you don't live near the shop, enter anyway.  Miss Mustard Seed has graciously offered to send a few of her coveted handmade ornaments to the lucky winner in lieu of the gift card if you're out of town.

We also gave you a sneak peek at some of the rooms in our Holiday Design House.  { Click here } to visit that post.

I posted the answer to What the... What? #7 today.  So come and see what this item really is used for.  I love this game!

Ugh.... I'm so tired.  Where is that bag of Halloween candy?  I need a little pick me up!

What the... What? (#7) Revealed!

On Monday, we posted one of our items for our seventh installment of "What the...What?"

We had a few people that just missed the mark, and a few who were right on.  Guesses included a holder for canning jars, candle holders, cornbread molds, soap molds, ink well holders, and a dog food bowl!

A lot of our guesses were close and a lot of you got the "mold" part.  You'll be excited to know that these were old Mexican wooden sugar molds.

This site, just behind the sand dunes of Diamond Beach on the north coast of NSW half is very flat and has a more modest view of wetlands. The proximity of the ocean would living by the sea, though the house could not access view of the ocean to provide the amenity. The design therefore necessary to work in this context and provide the equipment inside. This is a holiday home for a large family, who travel frequently on with other families, so facilities for 10 to 15 people were needed. A covenant on the land dictated that the house was built using the brick and tile.
The design consists of four elements, wrapped around a central courtyard. Living area, two separate sleeping areas adult and a children’s area. The living area has a slab for thermal mass and faces North. The two sleeping areas are identical adult retreats parents at opposite corners, while the area has a children’s dormitory boys and girls and TV area. Each of the four components is separated by a covered bridge, which houses two hammocks, a dining area or entrance. A shed roof wraps around the yard in all these areas, simplifying the roof drainage and with the unit.
Sliding perforated mini orb covered bridges close to the edge of the building, so they are safe when the house is not in use. They also screen the sun and adverse weather. A second set of screens wrap around the courtyard, which also protect against the elements and meet the extended absences.

Home for a family with two children is set on a hillside vineyard old who had remained undeveloped. On the northern slope of the hill adjacent to a non-developable area, the house is surrounded by large trees. To be able to even use the site it was necessary to the terrace of the immediate environment, and the house was developed along the lines of the topography formed.
In the process, the four terraces themselves function as outdoor spaces, each corresponding to a specific interior space. Unusual topography is also reflected in the construction of the building. The connection to the land is a staircase, underground cellar widely exposed internal concrete floors insulated, above which is a prefabricated building with a facade of wood Eternit ventilated. Large plates are embossed with a prototype of the textile-like, producing a raw and haptic.
Inside, a staircase core is the center of a spatial sequence that takes place over three floors. Entry level are the children’s rooms, with cellars in the back. The floor is recessed above, creating differentiated spatial heights for different areas of the house. The doors on the intermediate level with living rooms and parents’ room allow a circular movement.
Due to building regulations, roof slopes above the living room in parallel with the ground, and runs directly on the flat roof in the studio and in the guest room upstairs. A light roof running the entire width of the building creates a character in the studio at the top, at the same time lighting the room living.

Salted Caramel Cupcakes

Salted Carmel Cupcakes
I don't bake. I try. But I don't do it often. So, you could imagine my shock when my husband asked for "Salted Caramel Cupcakes" for his birthday. It was a challenge and I was willing to take it! First off... there is no way that this non-baker was going to start from scratch (there are perfectly good box mixes in the store that are just waiting to be used).  Anyway... these cupcakes turned out AWESOME and I am so excited to share the how-to with you all!

I started with a basic cake mix. Why reinvent the wheel... (actually this helped limit the steps that I could possibly mess up). I added an extra egg because I read in some cooking blog that an extra egg makes them a bit more "cake" like. Sure.

I loaded all of the cake batter into a plastic bag and cut off a corner. This was very helpful in loading up all fo the cupcake tins! To store the bag of batter, I placed it in a bowl to hold the hole upright.

Once they cooled, it was time to get fancy. I filled a pastry bag full of caramel flavored topping. I "injected" it into each cupcake. For those of you that actually do bake, I am sure your are cringing at this step. I am sure there is a better way to fill a cupcake, but for someone who does not bake, my $1.99 pastry bag did the job!

Once they were all filled, I took to flavoring the frosting. I bought vanilla frosting, emptied it into my mixer, added some caramel sauce and mixed it up. It had a very mild carmel flavor but more importantly, I liked the color ;) (Or should the flavor be the more important part....??? Hm.)

I then took my nifty $1.99 pastry bag and filled it with frosting. I frosted all of the cupcakes, then placed a small piece of caramel on them (I cut the caramels into smaller pieces for the mini cupcakes), and put a pinch of sea salt on the top.

Wow. They were good.
Yep.  We will be making these again. :)
