A few tips for dressing windows

I was trying to think of something we haven't covered much in the blog, and also something that we get a lot of questions about --- dressing windows.

Here are a few of our favorite tips to help make the most of your windows.

Please feel free to leave us a comment with any of your favorite tips too - we love to hear from you and get your perspectives!

To make your windows seem larger than they actually are and to bring more light in to the room, use a longer rod and push the draperies to the sides so they are just touching the window trim. You can also put the rod several inches higher than you normally would to make the ceilings seem higher --- counter-intuitive, but it works!

We love the idea of repurposing vintage doorknobs as curtain tiebacks.

Here is a great option if you have a two story space with lots of windows.  The extra long curtains can help to ground and define the room.

If you're using a very bold pattern in a room, you may want to go with solid curtains so the patterns don't compete.  The reverse is also true; if you have a bright room with no major patterns, curtains are a great way to bring in a bold pattern.

If you're wondering how long your curtains should be, how wide they should be, textures, color, etc., this post from Real Simple is very helpful and covers most of the ABC's of hanging curtains.

Thanks for stopping by today!  As a reminder, we have a sale going on in our Online Store, Shop Lucketts.  We've also marked down our favorite Design House curtain panels --- but they'll only be on sale until this Saturday, August 11th.
